ADHD Ireland welcome the interim report from the Mental Health Commission on CAMHS
It should be noted that 30% – 50% of all children going through the CAMHS system are there for ADHD assessment and treatment. We note the urgency with which the Inspector of Mental Health Services Dr Susan Finnerty from the Mental Health Commission has shown in publishing this interim report and look forward to seeing the full report.
The finding in this report come as little surprise to ADHD Ireland and to its members. ADHD Ireland receives several thousand calls every year from parents trying to access services for their children. We note the extensive work undertaken by HSE to improve the service since the publication of the Maskey Report in January 2022 but cannot help but wonder why we needed the Maskey Report to start this work.
In commenting on this, Ken Kilbride CEO of ADHD Ireland said “This report is another damning indictment on the CAMHS service, the issues are well known and have been for years. We call on all parties to continue to work together to deliver a service which becomes a beacon of best practice for our all our children”
